The Managers

Hey, guys!

I have almost finished watching The Office, as I am on season 9, currently. Today’s post is going to be about all of the different managers so far in the show. There has been Michael, Jim, Dwight, Robert California, Nellie, Creed, and Andy who have all held this position at least once during the show.

** spoilers for those who have not seen/are not caught up on The Office **

I liked Dwight when he had it for the one day, and it made me feel really bad when they made him do something stupid and ruining it for himself. I really do believe he would be a good manager, if he had someone to chill him out and keep him from turning it into an insane dictatorship. He has been trying so hard to get it, and they always make him look so sad whenever something fucks it up for him. I was also annoyed with them giving him this huge project and then almost getting him fired because it did not go as well as they thought. I do not really like Packer, but I felt bad that he got fired when it honestly was not his fault.

Jim as the manager/co-manager whatever was eh. I felt he was too bossy and it was just weird seeing him have that position. I like him more as a sales guy, being able to sit out there with Pam and prank Dwight, constantly. I love Jim as a character, just not as a manager.

Robert California was a serious “what the fuck” to me. He looks and was creepy, and every episode with him made me feel super uncomfortable. I was really glad when David bought back Dunder Mifflin and finally got rid of this guy. I honestly did not enjoy his character one bit. When he first showed up for the job interview I was hoping they would not pick him. I figured he would, but I was still hoping.

Nellie, ugh, god, I hate this character so much. She is such a bitch and just everything she does pisses me off. When she refused to give Andy his job back, that she literally stole from him, and then Robert fired him cause he’s a douche, I WAS SOOO FREAKIN’ MAD. Literally fuming. I do not get why Andy let her stay and I hope she gets some huge karma shit done to her. I do not care if they try to make her more likeable, they already made me hate her so much for what she did to Andy, and what she almost did to Dwight. Had Dwight not been stopped by Jim, he would have been fired and she would have blamed the whole mess on him. Just, ugh, no. I would have to say that next to Robert California and Creed, she is one of my least favorite characters on this show.

Andy was and currently is a really good manager. I love that he is serious and not as goofy and dumb as Michael was. The show is a lot different now that he is manager, because it is not all about him making controversial, but hilarious, jokes and focuses on other things and other characters besides the main group. Oscar has been having a lot more of his life put on the show, such as his affair with Angela’s gay husband, Stanley’s life has been looked at more with his affair, Daryl with his relationships with his ex-wife and Val, etc. It is nice seeing the more side characters start to really become the main characters. Anyways, back to Andy, haha. His and Erin’s relationship drives me nuts with how much trouble they seem to be having actually getting – and staying – together. I sneaked a little bit on Netflix and saw that Erin starts to fall for “Plop” and just, ugh, WHY GIRL WHY, you just Andy back ughhhhhhhhh.

Creed is just a really freaky character to me. He is probably my least favorite and has been since they really started focusing on him more. Everything he does is just shitty and it really bothers me, lol. When he was manager I was tempted to just skip through the episodes till he was not anymore. I have little to say about him because I just do not like him.

Finally, Michael. Besides Andy, and Dwight’s one day performance, Michael was my favorite. I enjoyed and miss his ignorant and dirty humor. I am glad that the show does not focus around his crappy love life and lame jokes anymore, but I do miss it because it is what the first seven seasons were all about, and what I came to tolerate and love. The Office is a different show now, even if it has almost all of the same characters and the same title, just because this one man, the actual main character, is gone. Even though he was stupid and too goofy for his own good, he was a good manager because he was a good person to those he cared about.

Anyways, this is what I think about all the Dunder Mifflin manager’s so far c: I will hopefully be able to finish the show sometime this week and my next blog post will be about that 😀

Goodbye Michael Scott

Hi guys!

** Spoilers for those who have not finished/seen The Office **

Tonight’s post will be dedicated to Michael Scott of The Office, and his exit from the show. I have finally reached season 7, and stopped watching on the heart-wrenching episode where he leaves the show, for good.

I am sad that he is leaving, because I know, from sneaking around on the internet, that he really is not coming back, except for a cameo in one last episode. I feel like the last two seasons are almost not worth watching because he is one of the main, if not the main, characters. I was thinking that either Dwight or Jim would be promoted to manager, so I was actually pretty surprised when they brought Will Farrell in to take that position. Although, I do really love Will Farrell as an actor, and if they keep him as the boss it would be pretty awesome.

In the end it was finally time for him to find and stay with a girl, especially one that clicks so well with him. They made Holly such a perfect match for him. The fact that they brought her back and actually had them get together, again, made me quite joyful. I was getting tired of Michael dating all these women who were obviously no good for him, and it was a big downer when he finally met one who he went great with and they sent her away. Michael’s lines to David, that went something along the lines of, “How could you send her away” killed me. His proposal to her caused me to shed some tears, too.

Anyways, this episode really hit me in the feels whenever he would go and say his last words to all of the other cast members. I teared up at least 5 different times, especially when he finally gives Dwight his well-deserved recommendation letter, and when Pam is able to catch him for goodbyes before he hops on his plane and leaves. I was kind of disappointed that he did not just tell everyone that he was leaving a day earlier than planned, and did not give them an “official” goodbye.

So, to Michael Scott, from Jim’s wise words:

Parks and Recreation vs. The Office

Hello!

So, I started watching The Office (U.S.) a little over a week ago. It took me until half way through the first season to really get into it, since I had to get myself out of Parks and Recreation mode and willing to accept that although this show is quite similar, they are still different. For anyone who has seen both these shows, you probably know exactly what I mean when I say that. Today, this blog post will be for those of you that have not seen one or the other, or maybe neither of them. It will be comparing and contrasting the shows.

Similarities
• Both have openings with upbeat music.
• Rashida Jones is in both of these (which freaked me out when I first saw her in The Office).
• They both have a guy who does not take his relationship seriously and ends up losing the girl because of it (Andy/Anne and Roy/Pam).
• There is a person in the higher up position that is incredibly goofy (Michael and Leslie).
• Both shows take place in an office setting.
• Love triangles: Pam/Jim/Karen and Leslie/Anne/Mark, which, ironically Rashida Jones is in both.
• Both are sitcom mockumentaries.
• Lazy bosses: both Ron Swanson and Michael Scott do not like doing work, and will avoid it as much as they possibly can.

Differences
• The humor: The Office humor is really for people who do not get offended easily, since there is a lot of racism, sexism, stereotyping, ignorant, and just stupid remarks that come from Michael Scott’s mouth. Which, by the way, I really enjoy. The humor in Parks and Recreation is not as vulgar, although there is still some racism and sexism, with more emphasis on the character’s personalities and how they act over what they say.
• The Office is based mainly in an office, and there are a couple scenes here and there where the scenes will be outside of the office. Parks and Recreation has a lot of scenes that do not take place in their office.
• The side characters: In Parks and Recreation, all of the employees are a major part of the show. Their stories and their struggles are constantly being shown. In The Office, some of the employees are not looked into as much as others. I would say that Michael, Dwight, Pam, and Jim are really the main characters, while Phyllis, Stanley, Ryan, Kelly, Toby, etc are not as important. They play their roles when their roles are needed, but the viewer does not see too much into their lives outside of the office.
• The Office started in 2005, while Parks and Recreation started in 2011, so there is a big technology difference.
• The Lady’s Man: Tom Haverford has a hard time getting girls, while Jim is really great at it.
• Parks and Recreation has one character that gets made fun of by everybody else (Jerry), while in The Office, most characters get made fun of by one another, and one is not really solely singled out all of the time.

So, there you have it. These are all of the comparisons/contrasts of these two great shows that I could come up with, haha. They are just as different as they are the same. I really enjoy both of them, and I think that you guys should give these shows a chance. 🙂
